Career highlights: Mr Tejas Karia is a partner and heads the arbitration practice group of the firm. He has expertise in international and domestic commercial arbitration and information technology law. He has extensive experience in strategically advising, and representing public and private corporations in a wide variety of international arbitrations involving complex commercial and technical disputes in various sectors. He has handled both ad hoc and institutional arbitrations involving virtually all the major arbitration institutions with seats in India, Paris, London and Singapore.
He also represents Indian and transnational companies on matters before Indian courts in relation to arbitration, information technology law, privacy and data protection. He was part of the committee set up by the Law Commission of India for preparing a report on amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, which culminated in the Arbitration and Conciliation Amendment Act, 2015. He sits as an arbitrator in various matters including under ICC rules.
He has been recognised by Legal 500 2017, and Chambers & Partners, and is listed in Who's Who Legal: Arbitration – Future Leaders. Mr Karia has co-authored chapters on India in two books – 'Digital Evidence' (3rd edition) and 'Enforcing Arbitration Awards in India' (1st edition) – published by Lexis Nexis.
