Kartick Maheshwari of Khaitan & Co is our February lawyer of the month due to his pivotal role as a lead partner in advising Reliance Industries and its media subsidiary Viacom18 on its proposed $8.5 billion media merger with Disney-owned Star India. The merger will spawn one of the world's largest media companies. Reliance plans to infuse $1.4 billion into the merged entity, resulting in the company and its affiliates owning over 63 percent of the shares, while Disney will retain the remaining stake.

Maheshwari is a partner at Khaitan & Co who specialises in private equity, restructuring and insolvency, and M&A, particularly in the healthcare, real estate, financial services, e-commerce and consumer sectors. Maheshwari has established himself as a prominent figure in corporate transactions, having contributed to numerous noteworthy deals, such as CarVal’s recent acquisition of the Uttam steel businesses in Maharashtra and in multiple acquisitions of India-based IT services businesses for NTT Data.

Before becoming a partner at Khaitan & Co in 2014, Maheshwari worked at international firm White & Case and AZB & Partners.
