Wonsik Yoon is a managing partner of BLP Law Offices. He is qualified to practice law in Korea and California. Prior to joining BLP in 2019, he worked as a partner for Barun Law LLC for 16 years, serving as the Co-Chair of the International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Practice Group.

Mr. Yoon has successfully handled numerous international arbitration cases before leading institutions including KCAB, AAA/ICDR, ICC and LCIA both as counsel and arbitrator. He has also successfully represented domestic and foreign clients in court proceedings in multiple jurisdictions including the Supreme Court of Korea.

He also has extensive experience in corporate advisory, real estate, M&A, international transaction, and cross-border investment matters.

Litigation

  • SEC v. Terraform Labs (U.S. Government Representation): Acted as Korean counsel for the United States under the Hague Evidence Convention in the high-profile civil enforcement action against Terraform Labs and Do Kwon involving the Terra and Luna cryptocurrencies. Facilitated critical evidence-taking in Korea, contributing to a landmark USD 4.5 billion global settlement in the U.S. proceedings.
  • U.S. Judgment Enforcement (Lead Counsel): Successfully represented a U.S. judgment creditor in a USD 10.4 million enforcement action before the Korean courts. Secured full enforcement at both District and High Court levels, leading to a favorable settlement at the Supreme Court stage.
  • Real Estate Joint Venture Dispute (Lead Counsel): Representing a Korean investor in a domestic dispute between Korean parties arising from a real estate development project. Secured a favorable first-instance judgment awarding 90% of the claim; the matter is currently pending before the appellate court.
  • UK Law Firm – Fee Recovery (Lead Counsel): Representing a prominent UK law firm in a recovery action for unpaid fees against a Korean asset management company. Won a favorable first-instance judgment (80% of claim upheld); the matter is currently pending before the appellate court.

Arbitration

  • ICC Arbitration – Infrastructure (Chair Arbitrator): Served as chair arbitrator in an ICC dispute involving a foreign infrastructure fund and a Korean local government regarding operating income for a major toll bridge infrastructure project constructed via private investment.
  • KCAB Arbitration – Nuclear Power (Lead Counsel): Represented a global energy company in two KCAB arbitrations concerning safety-related equipment for four nuclear power plants in Korea. Handled complex technical and regulatory claims totaling USD 41 million.
  • KCAB Arbitration – Renewable Energy (Chair Arbitrator): Presided as chair arbitrator over a consolidated KCAB arbitration involving delay damage claims brought by nine Korean project companies against a contractor regarding the construction of solar power plants in Korea.
  • KCAB Arbitration – International Mining (Co-Arbitrator): Served as co-arbitrator in a consortium dispute arising from one of the largest overseas nickel mining projects in Africa involving Korean participation.
