Emerging disputes-focused firm Numen Law Offices debuts in our dispute resolution and restructuring tables this year on account of its portfolio of interesting work for numerous sophisticated clients. The team also worked on multiple real estate-related matters in the past 12 months. Four partners steer the firm, all dispute resolution specialists: Arush Khanna, George Thomas, Lakshmi Raman and Chaitanyaa Bhandarkar.

Work highlights 

Represented the National Restaurants Association of India, comprising bar, restaurant, pubs and café employees, as respondents in a case where they were alleged to be illegally running restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes in the Hauz Khas village. The result of the widely publicised case was that the writ petition filed was disposed of when the clients gave an undertaking before the high court of Delhi that they would operate their premises in accordance with the law. 

Defending Bistro Hospitality Private, the owners of TGI Fridays, in a civil damages suit filed against it in relation to a road accident. The client is seeking a dismissal of the suit.  

Obtained interim relief and a stay on the operation of a termination notice for Dartford Holidays in a matter where the respondent was seeking to vacate the client from a property. The case was settled and the client dropped its charges.

Work highlights 

Defending mortgagor YP Punj Family Trust in applications filed against it to seek the recovery of certificates.   

Represented plaintiffs, Kavya Build-Con Private in a case where the NCLT admitted an application by the defendants while the terms of settlement were being negotiated.   

Defending Lotus Greens Developers Private in a case where plaintiff BSL Castings Private filed a petition under the insolvency code claiming an alleged outstanding debt
