Expertise. Creativity. Solutions.
Our slogan “Expertise. Creativity. Solutions.” is definitive of our approach towards the resolution of the legal challenges faced by our clients. As a firm specializing in dispute resolution, we aim to assist our clients in achieving a practical and commercially sensible outcome to their disputes.
We believe that as a boutique practice, we are better placed to respond quickly to our clients’ needs and to provide bespoke service to our clients. We pride ourselves on not just being our clients’ lawyers. We are their trusted legal advisers and friends.
Led by our Managing Director, Joseph Tan, FCIArb, we advise our clients across the whole gamut of shipping and international trade disputes, as well as other commercial disputes. Apart from representing clients in Singapore litigation, we regularly act as counsel in international arbitrations seated in Singapore, Hong Kong and London.
Apart from acting as counsel, our Joseph Tan regularly receives appointments to act as arbitrator, having received appointments to act as arbitrator in SCMA, SIAC as well as the HKIAC arbitrations. Joseph has been recommended by Legal 500 Asia Pacific for his work in shipping disputes, and our clients have commended Joseph for his “understanding of maritime cases in Singapore and other jurisdictions” as well as being “practical, knowledgeable” in his fields of expertise.
We have an active practice in relation to disputes arising from the commodities trade, and we have handled disputes arising out of the sale of coal, iron ore, nickel as well as various types of liquid cargo ranging from gasoil to phenol.
Our Director, Joanna Poh, manages our commercial litigation practice. Joanna has a wealth of experience in advising on company and shareholder disputes, commercial contracts, employment law, tenancy and insolvency law. She has handled a wide range of commercial disputes in the course of her legal career. Her ability to converse in Mandarin and Japanese with the clients has endeared her to many corporate clients in the region.
Joanna is able to approach legal issues from a commercial and pragmatic perspective given her earlier stint as counsel in the Singapore office of a Swiss litigation funder where she managed recovery actions for complex and multi-million dollar claims against governmental and institutional debtors in third world economies and emerging markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle-East.
