In June 2018, Chooi & Company and Cheang & Ariff merged to form a firm well recognised and lauded for its wide-ranging offering including corporate, finance, dispute resolution and IP practices. Work highlights

Represented Hovid, a well-known and prominent pharmaceutical company in Malaysia, in a patent infringement suit filed by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp involving a medical compound used to treat disease caused by bone resorption.

Represented Tramontina SA Cutelaria, a well-known Brazilian kitchen cutleries and knives manufacturer, in a suit concerning trademark infringement and passing off, where the defendant owns a chain of Ace Hardware stores in Malaysia. The defendant was found to be selling knives bearing the client’s trademark and information.

Dispute resolution

Work highlights

Successfully defended a housing developer in a suit brought by a purchaser to rescind the sale and purchase agreement for a property worth RM2.9 million.

Acting for Lysaght Corrugated Pipe and Lysaght Galvanized Steel, one of Asia’s eminent steel manufacturers and suppliers, in an arbitration proceeding concerning forged contracts before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. This is the first case in Malaysia dealing with anti-foreign arbitration injunction after the Arbitration Act had been amended.
