Career highlights: Michael Carl is supervising adviser for SSEK’s debt restructuring and mining practices. Michael earned an Indonesian law degree in 2012 and is fluent in Indonesian. Michael’s recent work includes advising China Construction Bank on the acquisition of Bank Windu and merger with Bank Anda and acting for the Russian industrial conglomerate Vi Holding on a $600 million nickel smelter project. He led the SSEK teams in the PT Bakrie Telecom debt restructuring, PT Arpeni Pratama Ocean Line debt restructuring and arbitration, and the Berlian Laju Tanker restructuring.
Michael is recognised as a leading lawyer by Chambers & Partners, IFLR1000 and Who’s Who Legal. He was voted in 2012 an Indonesian external counsel of the year by Asian-MENA Counsel readers.
Michael earned his JD from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (1994) and his MA in economics from the University of Hawaii (1990).
