Career highlights: Namita has over 24 years of experience advising leading multinational corporations on doing business in India on a range of matters. She brings to the table expertise emanating from a combination of skill sets drawn from her experience as a general counsel and private practitioner to provide efficient legal solutions to the businesses which her firm advises.
She started her career in the Supreme Court of India, where she worked on civil, commercial and contractual law, on issues of constitutional and environmental laws and public interest litigation. She gained extensive experience in insurance law, antitrust law, privatisation and disinvestment, franchising and technical collaborations while working in a corporate and commercial law firm.
Namita has served as the legal counsel, chief compliance officer and ombudsperson of an Indian subsidiary of GE Industrial Systems. As a member of the India management team, she worked extensively with the Asia-Pacific and US legal teams advising on the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and implementing the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention and UN Convention Against Corruption. She has trained board members, senior management and employees on various compliance issues and policies, thus helping the company achieve high performance and integrity, and exemplifying her leadership skills on the overall business.
Working with overseas lawyers and senior management enabled her to break through legal boundaries and bring hands-on experience in the areas of compliance, government investigations and raids, legislative and political relations and customising global integrity policies, including anti-money laundering.
