Career highlights: Edmund Kronenburg began his career at Drew & Napier in 1996, and is today the Managing Partner of Braddell Brothers, Singapore's third-oldest law practice, founded in 1883 by the sons of Singapore's first Attorney-General.
As litigation counsel, Edmund is actively engaged in trial and appellate advocacy on behalf of clients in the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal. He has also been instructed by other solicitors to act as counsel. Edmund has appeared opposite a variety of Senior Counsel in trials and other hearings, and against Queen's Counsel, successfully, in an appeal before the Singapore High Court in July 2012. He is privileged to be an invited honorary overseas member of both COMBAR (Commercial Bar Association), England and the Chancery Bar Association, England.
Edmund and his team have been instructed on worldwide Mareva / freezing injunctions exceeding with $1 billion in combined value. In 2013, they also acted for the Indonesian Lippo group's PT First Media in successfully resisting enforcement of over 99% of a SGD300 million ($215 million) SIAC arbitration award obtained against it by the Malaysian Astro group, in Singapore.
As arbitration counsel, Edmund represents clients in international arbitrations under the SIAC, ICC, UNCITRAL and other rules. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb), Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb), Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ), Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (HKIArb) and the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators (PIArb).
Edmund also sits as an arbitrator and is admitted to the arbitrators' panels/lists of (in alphabetical order): AIAC (Malaysia), BANI (Indonesia), BDAC (Brunei), CAA (Taiwan), HKIAC (Hong Kong), KCAB (Korea), IIAM (India), NCAC (Cambodia), PIAC (Vietnam), PDRC (Philippines), IMA (Russia), SCCA (Saudi Arabia), SHIAC (China), TAI (Thailand), VIAC (Vietnam) and VLCAC (Vietnam). Reflecting his regional practice, in addition to his appointments in Singapore, Edmund has been appointed sole arbitrator in a Hong Kong-seated expedited arbitration at the HKIAC, presiding arbitrator in several Vietnam-seated arbitrations at the VIAC, and as party-nominated arbitrator in Indonesian-seated arbitrations at BANI.
Edmund has received recognition in the Legal 500, Chambers & Partners and Best Lawyers guides. He has been variously described by the Legal 500 as 'aggressive', 'articulate', a 'good strategist', a 'trusted confidant', a 'good advocate', 'best in class', a 'very practical and smart lawyer', having a 'flair for arbitration', and providing 'great, practical, no-nonsense advice in international arbitrations'. Chambers & Partners (Asia Pacific) has quoted one source as saying that Edmund 'has the ability to think beyond the conventional and has brilliant ideas in terms of legal strategy'.
Apart from his work in court and in arbitrations, Edmund frequently gives talks and lectures on dispute resolution, arbitration, cross-examination and trial advocacy, as well as medical law.
