Career highlights: Theodoor Bakker is admitted to the Amsterdam bar and is a registered foreign lawyer under the Indonesian Advocates Law. He has worked in Southeast Asia since 1984, building up extensive experience over time in direct foreign investment, project finance work, aircraft finance, infrastructure development and general manufacturing investment. During the Asian financial crisis he was involved in many aspects of restructuring and insolvency and has advised on foreign law issues of bankruptcy reform in Indonesia. Theodoor has advised the International Finance Corporation, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Chase and Société Générale on structured products and insolvency issues. His practice now also increasingly involves acting as international commercial arbitrator and he is registered at the Indonesian National Arbitration Board (BANI), SIAC and HKIAC. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has published various articles on insolvency and cross-border investment issues and teaches at the Faculty of Law of the University of Indonesia and at the Department of Law and Human Rights.
His expertise has been recognised in various publications, including as a leading lawyer by IFLR1000 – financial and corporate (2017), a leading individual in restructuring and insolvency by Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2017), a leading individual in banking & finance by Chambers Asia (2017) and as an Asialaw Leading Lawyer 2017 in banking & finance, corporate/M&A and restructuring & insolvency.
