King & Wood Mallesons has hired Sam Farrands as head of projects in its Hong Kong office. Before the move, he was with MinterEllison in Hong Kong and brings with him extensive experience advising developers, contractors, financiers and governments on projects across Asia.

AZB & Partners has promoted senior associate Sonali Mathur to a partner in its Mumbai office. She specialises in arbitration and advises on corporate, securities and IP matters. 

Former HSA Advocates partners start up new firm

Former HSA Advocates partners Sakya Chaudhuri and Avijeet Lala have started their own firm focusing on the regulatory practice in India. Their new firm, Niti Niyaman, will cover regulatory, arbitration and competition law. Chaudhuri has extensive experience advising companies, industry bodies and regulators on regulatory and competition issues.

Luthra & Luthra has hired Pallavi Bedi as a corporate partner. Before the move, she was a partner at JSA and has also worked in Mayer Brown’s London office. She has a strong focus on project finance, particularly energy, mining and infrastructure projects.

Bae, Kim & Lee hires Je Yoon Shin as senior adviser

Bae, Kim & Lee has hired Je Yoon Shin, former chairman of Korea’s Financial Services Commission, to be a senior adviser to its banking and capital markets practice. After his tenure at the FSC between 2013 and2015, he was appointed as the president of an inter-governmental body on combating money laundering. He also serves as the ambassador for the International Finance Corporation.

Simpson Grierson hires Sally McKechnie as a partner

Public law specialist Sally McKechnie will join New Zealand’s Simpson Grierson as a partner in its Wellington office on June 1. She will focus on assisting public sector clients with strategic, regulatory and policy-related issues. She has extensive experience in public law litigation.
