Corrs Chambers Westgarth has added James Morley and Simon Reid to the firm’s partnership.

Morley, who is now a corporate advisory partner, has more than a decade of domestic and international experience, including several years spent working on high profile global deals across a number of industries at a Magic Circle firm in London. He specialises in complex Australian and cross-border M&A. He also advises listed and unlisted companies on a broad range of matters, including demergers, joint ventures, ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) listing rules, commercial agreements, corporate governance, fundraisings and procurement. He has acted for a number of the firm’s key clients, including EBOS, BP, John Holland and CUB.

Reid, a new banking & finance partner in Sydney, is highly experienced in debt financings for acquisitions, projects and real estate financings. He has worked on transactions originated in Australia and advised on the Australian law aspects of numerous international cross-border deals. Reid has advised many of Corrs’ key clients, including the ALTRAC consortium on their successful bid for the Sydney Light Rail PPP, the Brookfield and Macquarie consortium on their acquisition of Quadrant Energy and a leading global investment and asset management firm on numerous real estate acquisitions. He is also a qualified legal practitioner in England and Wales.

Mel Schwing has also joined the firm as special counsel in the construction group in Melbourne. He is an international dispute resolution attorney who is licensed to practice law in both Australia and the US. Mel has expertise in international arbitration, cross-border litigation, government investigations, and strategic counselling, particularly in matters involving complex scientific and technological issues. Before joining Corrs, he worked for leading international law firms in South Korea and the US, on matters in other common law and civil law jurisdictions, and as an assistant US attorney.  In those roles, he coordinated international arbitrations, criminal prosecutions, and complex litigation defences and advised high-profile corporate and political clients on legal, regulatory, and ethics compliance.
