Our arbitration specialist Prof. Steve Ngo and partner Mark Cham Shan Jie presented on arbitration for China - Asean disputes and international arbitration in Singapore respectively at an International Arbitration Forum in Guangzhou on 13 Jan 2026. Prof Shao from the Guangzhou University Law School also presented on the upcoming amendments to the arbitration laws in China. These amendments are slated to be effective 1 March 2026 will give more clarity on arbitration in China defining the lex arbitri as well as allowing for ad-hoc arbitrations in China in certain circumstances.
The forum attracted more than 70 lawyers, business leaders as well as trade organizations from Guangzhou and the greater bay area. There was also an active Q and A session after the presentations where various issues facing international arbitration were discussed and including the upcoming amendments to the China arbitration laws.
