Harry Chawla of Luthra and Luthra Law Offices (Luthra and Luthra) is our September lawyer of the month since he has been appointed the new Managing Partner (MP) of Luthra and Luthra. He is the first to succeed Rajiv Luthra since the legendary rainmaker’s untimely passing earlier this year in May.

Chawla’s former firm, Atlas Law Partners, merged with Luthra and Luthra mid-August. Other asialaw ranked partners now joining Luthra and Luthra from Atlas include litigation veteran Ritu Bhalla and private equity specialist Niti Paul. With Atlas’ 33-strong team now combined with Luthra and Luthra, the firm has 62 partners and it has opened up a new office in Gurugram.

Chawla is an experienced banking and finance, M&A and real estate practitioner, with a career that spans over three decades. His banking specialty includes representing lenders and borrowers on issues pertaining to domestic and cross-border corporate finance, debt restructuring and refinancing, securitisation, acquisition finance, structured finance, bonds and similar instruments.

Prior to Atlas Law Partners, which Chawla co-founded in 2016 and helmed as its MP, he was a partner at Kochhar & Co and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. He spent four years in his early days of practising at Luthra and Luthra, leaving in 2000 as a partner.
