Mr. Yu-Lai Jin is the founder and managing partner of KaiRong Law Firm. He graduated from East China University of Politics and Law. Mr. Jin joined Shanghai International Economic & Trade Law Firm in 1986 and established KaiRong Law Firm in 1998.

Admitted as attorney-at-law in 1987, Mr. Jin has been specializing in shipping, aviation, insurance and the related financial transaction. He is heavily-experienced in all phases of complex litigation and arbitration, and has a thorough understanding of shipping law, aviation law, insurance law and civil litigation procedures.

In 2003 and 2010, Mr. Jin led his team to win two landmark cases concerning shipping and aviation claim in China Supreme Court: the first to assist Zhejiang National Textiles Import & Export Group in a judicial review case concerning the definition of shipper under China Maritime Law; the second to represent Cargolux Airlines and its insurers against TAECO for aircraft damages and successfully recovered the losses from TAECO under SGHA.

As a leading shipping lawyer in China, Mr Jin has extensive experience in admiralty and maritime law. He represents a diverse client base, including shipowners, shipbuilders, cargo owners, NVOCC, seamen, P&I clubs, port operators etc. handling thousands of cases in relation to disputes on freight, cargo missing, damage and loss, releasing goods without B/L, vessel / truck chartering, warehouse leasing, warehouse handling and so on, in litigation, and regulatory and transactional matters.

As a leading aviation lawyer in China, Mr Jin has led his team to handle the most of air-crash cases for airlines and its liability insurers as well as aircraft manufacturers in China, such as Korean Air air crash 1999 in Shanghai, Bombardier and China Eastern air crash 2004 in Baotou, Cargolux Airlines Ground-handling accident 2008 in Shanghai and now assisting Malaysian Airlines MH370 missing accident 2014 in China.
