Mr. Chen Xiangyong has practiced law for 29 years since 1994 and now he is the Director and Managing Partner of Wang Jing & Co. He also sits as Vice-Chair of Maritime Law Committee of Inter-Pacific Bar Association(IPBA) from 2019 to 2023, Standing Director of China Maritime Law Association, Arbitrator of China Maritime Arbitration Commission, Arbitrator of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Arbitrator of South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration), Arbitrator of China Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, Member of Shanghai Arbitration Association, Supporting Member of Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group, Mediator of Guangzhou International Commercial Mediation Center, Mediator of Shenzhen Qianhai International Commercial Mediation Center, and Member of Guangdong International Business and Economics Legal Service Team.

As a renowned law expert in the maritime and shipping industry, Xiangyong has handled many complex and notable maritime cases that are influential on the industry, including the case of dispute over parallel litigation jurisdictions arising from the collision between M/V “Chou Shan” and M/V “CMA CGM Florida” in China’s Exclusive Economic Zone, the sinking of M/V “MOL Comfort” in the Indian Ocean which has been selected by the Supreme People’s Court into the “Top 10 Typical Maritime Cases of the Year”, the case of dispute over Bohai Sea oil platform pollution damage liability, as well as the most disastrous ship explosion and sinking following collision between M/T “Sanchi” and M/V “CF Crystal” in East China Sea, and so forth.

Furthermore, Xiangyong has been frequently invited by the Supreme People’s Court of China and the Maritime Safety Administration of China for drafting legislation in terms of liability limitation for maritime claims, oil pollution damages, and establishment of the civil liability insurance system for oil pollution, etc. He also participates in the working group of amendment to the Maritime Code of China and the Special Maritime Procedures Law of China. At intervals, he has been widely invited as expert witness to give testimony for some significant maritime cases before courts or arbitration tribunals in the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong, China.
