James represents clients to obtain and enforce their patent rights in China by leading managing IP litigation cases, procuring patent rights, offering strategic IP counselling for clients' business in PRC, and conducting due diligence in corporate transactions to assess and mitigate IP risks.
James spent eight years at Perkin Coie, becoming a partner at the firm's Los Angeles office in 2007, and the managing partner of its Beijing Office in 2008. In the late 90s, James was a co-founder and general counsel of GanTech International, a Silicon Valley venture-backed start-up.
James sits on the boards of the Zhejiang Chambers of Commerce US and CalTech Associates. James was the chairman of the board of BayHelix Group. Businessweek elected James as one of most influential 'sea turtles' (US returnees) in the Sino-American community. James obtained his BS degree from Fudan University, Shanghai. Within a total of seven academic years, James earned a PhD degree from Caltech and a JD and MBA from Columbia University.
