Career highlights: Luky Walalangi joined ABNR in March 2001 and became a partner in January 2009. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Parahyangan Catholic University, majoring in business law. In 2000, he earned his LLM degree in the Netherlands, majoring in international business law. Before joining ABNR, he worked as a foreign trainee with a banking institution in Amsterdam. Mr Walalangi has been involved in major financing transactions in Indonesia (including the bonds issuances in 2011 to 2014 by an Indonesian state-owned company), as well as anti-monopoly issues, corporate restructuring, project and debt financing, land and investment projects, and M&A projects.
In general investment projects, Mr Walalangi has represented various foreign companies in all aspects of foreign investment law.
In M&A, Mr Walalangi has represented a number of major Japanese trading companies and Indonesian state-owned banks in various acquisitions and merger transactions. These include the acquisitions and mergers of multi-finance companies, auction companies, freight forwarding/logistic and warehouse companies, database companies, various industrial companies, as well as medical laboratory companies. In addition, he has represented major Japanese companies in a number of real property and land transactions, including in the establishment of a number of prestige condominium, condotels, shopping malls and hotels in Indonesia.
In project finance, Mr Walalangi has represented major multi-national banks and financial institutions in a number of financing transactions, both bilateral and syndicated loan transactions, including on major electricity projects in Indonesia.
Mr Walalangi has extensive regulatory knowledge and practical know-how in all of the above areas. He writes extensively and has published the following: General Overview of Security Interests under Indonesian Law in Project Financing, published by Euromoney; The Real Estate Law Review, published by Law Business Research; The Merger Control Review, published by Law Business Research; and, The Survey on Merger Control, published by the International Financial Law Review.
Achievements: Mr Walalangi has been listed by Asia Pacific Legal 500 – 2017, as a recommended lawyer in real estate and corporate and M&A, and by Asia Pacific Legal 500 – 2016, in capital markets, corporate and M&A, real estate and restructuring & insolvency. He was also listed by Asialaw Profiles both in 2015 and 2016 as a recommended individual.
