Amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence to take effect on 1 May 2020

The Supreme Court recently issued amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Revised Rules on Evidence (collectively, the "Revised Rules"). The Revised Rules will take effect on 1 May 2020. Like the earlier released Revised Guidelines on Continuous Trial of Criminal Cases, the Revised Rules are intended to expedite civil and criminal litigations and, to this end, streamline the litigation process.

Philippine Competition Commission Increases Mandatory Notification Thresholds

M&A transactions whose definitive agreements are executed on or after 1 March 2020 will be subject to mandatory notification to the PCC if they meet the new thresholds of PhP 6 billion for the Size of Party test, and PhP 2.4 billion for the Size of Transaction test.
