Career highlights: Darrell Johnson has resided and practised in Indonesia for more than 35 years. His expertise includes Indonesian finance, banking and capital markets law, foreign investment law, oil and gas law, M&A, insurance law, and corporate and commercial law. Darrell is widely experienced in working with multinationals and large domestic companies across industries and practice areas. His clients include SC Johnson, McDermott, Prudential, AIA, Dai-ichi Life Insurance, GE, McDonald’s, Exxon and Ford.
Education & professional memberships: Darrell is a 1966 honours graduate in political science from the University of Southern California and Cambridge University. He earned a JD degree from Stanford Law School in 1969. While at Stanford, he was a member of the board of editors of the Stanford Law Review and chairman of the International Law Society.
Darrell is a member of the State Bar of California and has been admitted to practise before the US Supreme Court and the Federal District Court (Central District) of California. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Darrell is on the board of advisers of the International and Comparative Law Centre of the Southwestern Legal Foundation, and a member of the board of governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia. He is a member of the panel of arbitrators at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
In 1997, Darrell was selected as a fellow of the American Bar Association. He is a founding member of the International Insolvency Institute. Darrell was the founding member of the board of advisers and the principal coordinator of the ELIPS project, Indonesia’s commercial law reform project from 1992 to 1996, the largest single country effort of its kind in the world.
