Nomura, the largest securities firm in Japan, beat a number of other bidders including Barclays to win the auction for the Asian operations of bankrupt US investment bank Lehman Brothers. Nomura is also acquiring Lehman’s equities and investment banking units in Europe and the Middle East.

Nomura is being advised by Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. Linklaters is acting for KPMG, the provisional liquidator to the Lehman Hong Kong operation.
